NES Mini ITX

Yes, we know it has been done many times before . . .

. . . but ours is better.

Dustin was having some fun with my Dremel trimming the connector box down. We certainly didn't need all of it, and we decided to save space this way.

This is what the box ended up looking like, all trimmed to save space.

This is the original NES switch assembly. Originally it was mounted to a rather bulky circuit board, but for our purposes some simple wiring will be fine. We'll also be providing a new LED, which sits in the clear plastic section. Also note the metal section on top of the power switch - This is the mechanism that allows it to click on and off.

For the NES, the power switch had a click-on/click-off mechanism. However, for our purposes in a modern computer system, it needed to be changed to a momentary switch. Removing the metal clip from the top of the switch did the trick nicely.

I got the motherboard recently, so we can start getting into this more now.

The CD is there for a size comparison. This thing is amazingly small, and yet it just barely fits inside the Nintendo.

And here it is, sitting somewhere near its final destination. There is not a lot of room here, so some of the cable routing later might be tricky.
